Another Reason Why I Love My Job
Submitted by rowan on Fri, 05/09/2008 - 08:39.Friday Morning, 9:30 AM. Our weekly interdepartmental meeting:
VANESSA THE ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR: All right, so that wraps up marketing, production, costuming, and the equine department. Before we close, let's open for Round Table. Does anyone have anything they'd like to bring up?
JOHN: Actually, I would like to announce that last night I actually rolled *three*, yes three, natural 20s *in a row.*
One Saving Throw Too Few...
Submitted by rowan on Wed, 03/05/2008 - 15:51.Today we mourn the passing of a legend:
Farewell, Gary. May you be forever rolling in your grave.
Soul Calibur IV
Submitted by rowan on Mon, 01/14/2008 - 07:10.So I've played the Soul Calibur series only once or twice. I found it enjoyable, yet it didn't grab me.
Regardless, I must admit that this particular trailer for the newest installment grabbed my attention, for reasons that will need no explanation if the trailer is watched to its conclusion.
Drupal Question
Submitted by rowan on Tue, 10/30/2007 - 20:04.Hey there Mr. Barnson,
Quick question, if you have the time. I'm managing a web site for my family's church that runs on either Drupal or Civicspace. It's completely member locked, so currently when someone goes there they see an Access Denied message in the body of the site before they log in.
I'm trying to change the "Access Denied" message to something more user friendly, and I'm guessing it has to be done at the file level, since I can't seem to find anyway to change it using the 'administer' section of the site itself.
Hooray! New Headshots!
Submitted by rowan on Tue, 02/13/2007 - 10:50.Well, finally, after 9 YEARS I bit the bullet and got new headshots. And so far I like the results. 5 locations, 6 looks, 500 shots, 200 bucks. You will not find a better deal than that.
Anyway, I am now faced with the task of which headshot(s) I'd like to use. So, taking a page from Justin's blog, I'd love to enlist all y'all, if you're willing. If you have a spare moment, please go to
My New Year Thus Far
Submitted by rowan on Fri, 01/05/2007 - 09:45.So my vacation this year was to balmy Banff, Canada, nestled in the heart of the Rockies, for a week long stage combat workshop held by the International Order of the Sword and the Pen.
Here's some of the things I've had a chance to do so far since we entered 2007:
- Learned the fundamentals of whip cracking and whip tricks.
- Rolled backwards over a table.
- Been put through a wall.
Don't Panic
Submitted by rowan on Wed, 10/11/2006 - 13:45.The odds of anyone checking the news before they check here are slim, but just in case anyone might freak:
The plane crash in NYC has been determined to be an accident and NOT a terrorist attack. If you're asking "What plane crash," it's probably a good thing that you read this message before the headlines that the media's spitting out (New York City Skyline in Flames Again).
A very small plane crashed into a building in NYC today.
So depressed...
Submitted by rowan on Tue, 09/05/2006 - 09:09.I can't believe the Croc Hunter's gone.
This depresses me more than I might have expected.
Musings on the state of the world
Submitted by rowan on Fri, 08/18/2006 - 18:34.I just wrote this in response to a friend's post on LiveJournal regarding Israel. It was a random musing of sorts, but I thought it would be interesting to throw it out here.
By all means, please tear this apart. :) It's more of a brain dropping than an absolute, calculated belief.

The fact is, terrorist cells and organizations, by their very nature, are nearly impossible to wipe out completely. They're like a virus (Mr. Anderson); their ability to replicate and stay out of sight is impressive, and it's very hard to attack them without doing severe damage to the body they inhabit. In this case, Lebanon.
Help with Drupal
Submitted by rowan on Mon, 08/14/2006 - 14:06.Matthew,
Totally random question, and I'm sure that I'll be providing nowhere near enough info for troubleshooting this, but here goes.
I've got a civicspace installation on a virtual server that's been running smoothly since last November.
One of the members of the civicspace site today mentioned that when they go to the site, all they get is a blank page. No error, no unauthorized login screen, nothing. Upon further testing, I've discovered that going to anything in the civicspace directory on this site, including non-existant URLs, returns just a blank page.
