Flugtag is coming to Maryland!

Saw some highlights on ESPN one night, This looks like a pretty cool event to see. I am trying to talk a couple co-workers into building one with me.

My problem would be that I'd be really interested in actually succeeding in the endeavor. Of course, my weight would be a serious factor in whether or not it could stay airborne. At 228 lbs, I'm some hundred+ pounds heavier than the guy that flew the human-powered plane across the English Channel. I wonder how a serious effort, akin to the Gossamer Albatross, would actually be received?

A serious effort to get something to actually glide would be even better. I have the same problem with having too much in the weight dept. I would have to hire a jockey or something :-)

A real glider piloted by a monkey would do well and still be in the spirit of the event. Something to think about.
