I am working on a new team with my company. It is a ‘center for innovation’ as the current jargon goes. We are looking for a permanent title. Currently we are the Center for Technology, Media, and Telecommunications.

The center is focused on our Technology, Media and Telecommunications industry practice, although the knowledge it will create will apply more broadly in the areas of business strategy, organization, and operations. The Center’s goal is to produce thoughtware that is proactive, perspective driven, provocative, prescriptive, pragmatic, plugged-in and participatory.

The Key words that I have been targeting to create a title are Potential Strategy Technology Digital E-Business Advancement

All of my ideas so far sound pretty boring, so I am hoping there are some good / creative ideas out there.

$3000 speeding ticket?

I may need to find a new way to work(ugh) The safety that i have felt against the new fine laws in VA. seems to be quickly coming to an end…

A judge has thrown out Virginia’s odious new speeding fines on equal protection grounds—the fines only apply to motorists with Virginia license plates, not motorists from other states passing through or visiting. The fines, you may remember, range from $1,000 to $3,000, and can be applied for as minor an infraction as an improper signal, or driving 15 mph over the speed limit.

Typically, House of Delegates Speaker William Howell and Gov. Tim Kaine have responded to the ruling and to mounting public criticism by promising to address the fines in the next legislative session. Unfortunately, both have said they don’t plan to revoke the fines or to make them more reasonable, only to apply them to all drivers, not just Virginians. Meaning they plan to address the public outrage by applying the fines to more people, not fewer.

Also on topic, Tim Carney explained in the D.C. Examiner this week the role private developers have played in pushing the fines into law.

Meanwhile, despite the backlash, the man most responsible for the fines and who probably stands to benefit from them more than any other individual—Del. David Albo—has no opponent in the November election.

Supporters of the measure will use the Minneapolis bridge tragedy to explain why the fines are needed to shore up Virginia’s infrastructure. The state announced a few days ago that 400 of its bridges aren’t up to snuff.

Just as an FYI…

I saw this posted on the QOHS Alumni website concerning the class of ’92 class reunion.

~ Reunion
Greetings everyone! We will not be having a 15 year high school reunion but will definitely have one for our 20 year. More details to come in the near future, but in the meantime, please be sure to update or add your information so we are able to contact you. Thank you!

Surface Computing

Surface Computing is some pretty cool technology that M$ has been developing. Take a look. I especially like the wireless features that they discuss towards the end of the video. I can’t wait to find one to play with.

Cooling off…

Around Christmas last year, we had to buy a new entertainment center that was able to handle the new TV we bought. The new entertainment center has more of a credenza look to it. There are two glass paneled doors which the various gear for the Home theater and gaming systems sit behind. Those areas have a “slot” in the back that allows for the cables to leave the area.

The problem I am having is with heat. The one cabinet area houses an A/V receiver, a Direct TV DVR (Heat intollerant), a DVD Player, and a X-box 360 (with reported heat intollerance). If I leave the door shut on the area with this equipment the gear get too hot and has issues with working. Everything seems happy if I leave the door open (greather air flow) – but that kind of negates the whole esthetic reason for having the glass doors.

My idea that I am trying to figure out how to design and execute is to install some small (pc sized) fans onto the rear of the cabinet area that this equipment is in. The concern with this is 1) being able to have it AC powered and 2) not have a annoying fan hum.

Any ideas? Anyone seen any off the shelf products?
