Okay.. so here’s one.

I have recently wiped my laptop clean because of all the viruses and spyware.

I am using my laptop primarily for a single program which is memory intensive and can crash easily. I know virusscan prgrams can take a lot of resources and traditionally can make things crash sometimes.

BUT.. I don’t want those things again.. my friend who installed my new version of XP pro for me says I don’t need it and that windows firewall really does the trick.. claims he never gets virusses.

What’s your take? And if I do get one.. what one is the least intrusive?

Yup.. haven’t really even been trolling.. miss you guys.. Working fever pitch on a project until June..

“George Lucas rapped my Childhood..” Now.. its an offensive term, and its not rapped, theres only one “p”.. and one that I hear bandied about.. mostly about Star Wars.. and I never got it. I kind of like episodes 1 and 2 and still LOVE Episode three. Who could really get so upset.. its not as good.. but its that thing you love, right?

Wrong.

Good lord, I am sad right now. I LOVED Knight Rider. It was trashy, silly, television that everyone seemed to have fun doing. Talking Car that could jump over trucks but was snarky and sarcastic, Smiling goofball good-guy who can’t be stopped. Bad Cars, cool sci-fi, and lots of fun.

This NEEDS to be given a 2008 gloss..

But alas.. someone took Knight Rider out into the shed and shot it in the face then ate it then pooped it out then put it on television.

Awful. I mean “Freddy’s Dead” awful. I mean Uhura stripshow awful. I mean Jar Jar, Fierce Creatures, Superman vs. Nuclear Man, Arnold as Mr. Freeze, The pets can talk too – AWFUL.

Acting worse than the B-Movies I always watch. Terrible neo-rage-techno music.. (and REALLY overdone sappy music that makes me feel better about the love music in Dead Hunt). Absurd camera angles.. MTV overediting (Literally 20 shots of a montage of Vegas to tell us “We’re in Vegas”).

My friends.. there are three car chases in 2 hours in a knight rider movie (and the car does not jump).. one in which an SUV almost outruns a supercomputer Mustang on sharp turns.. there are exactly 2 fights.. and KITT is not snarky.. he’s aptly voices.. but the car is sympathetic and boring. The hero is depressed. They have 3 minute scene about him having to pee.

Its terrible.. and BORING. REALLY boring.

Oh why.. it could have been good.. it could have been BSG or Buffy or even the new Terminator show.. it could have brought back an icon of silliness that would have been fun to watch in these dark times..

Instead.. it rapped. My childhood. Hold the “pee”

Heath Ledger just died.

I don’t even know if The Dark Knight is finished. This is really sad.. and will totally change the tone of watching the next Batman film.

OK.. So my buddy is setting me up with a computer from 2003. NOTE: This guy is an engineer, and a producer of the film.. so I respect his opinion a lot.. but I alseo respect you guys as well..

Wha? For Video editing?

Well.. its an old server from his work with what he describes as a WAY faster motherboard and a (is this right?) RAID HD. He says its 10K Rpms. It has XP pro (vista is, evidently, bad) and 150gb on that fast HD.. plus a USB 2.0 for me to plug a 500gb storage drive. He says it can take up to 12gb of ram and has like a ton of expansion bays (we’re throwing in a cool Graphics and Sound card)

He says that while the processor speed is slower than today, the no-bottlenecking PLUS full memory utilization PLUS lack of Vista PLUS fast HD will more than make up for it. He notes that people have used computers for video editing at home commonly since like 2001, and that this would have been SUPER state of the art at the time.

I’m iffy (the whole thing will be like 700 bucks – he’s giving me a LOT free and we’re purchasing the sound/video cards, processor, and memory.) Which makes it a lot less expensive than it would otherwise be – and he asures me it will MORE than adequately handle SD and HD video, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Dreamweaver, and whatever else I need.

What do you guys think?

I’m sorry I never have time for long well thought out posts these days.. but I had to share..

Kelly and I just got done watching Ratatouille.. the Disney/Pixar smash from last summer…

We were going to watch Superbad, but the disc was scratched, and I had picked up Ratatouille to see if Liam liked it.

I learned 2 things.

1) Ratatouille is wrong for really young kids. It will vary between too slow and too scary.

2) I LOVED it. I was the best animated film for me since The Lion King, or maybe the first Toy Story.. I was transported, involved, and inspired. It was truly a feel-good piece of cinema.. and one that impressed me as a FILM first.. and then an animated film. Its funny, involving, and brilliant.. and I can;t recommmend it enough..

Just don’t watch it hungry.. you’ll want to cook!

And its… Obama and Huckabee in Iowa.. this should be interesting.
