My life is weird.

In the last seven days I have…

1) Literally saved a dude from dying.
2) Pretended to be Woody from Toy Story for the President of Hair Cuttery.
3) Had a baby pee on my feet.
4) Pretended to murder 72 people, and got praised for it
5) Yelled at my sister and had her tell me I did a good job at it
6) Saw my face on the cover of a commercially released DVD
7) Written a rap about Santa Claus and Angelina Jolie

and

10) (how white trash is this) Ate instant Mac N Cheese with Red wine at 3am

My life is really strange.

NONCE MORE WITH FEELING

No.. its not a typo..

This is the top story on yahoo News right now.. and once again, Fox has screwed Whedon fans…

Basically, there was a live event that would play the episode “Once more With Feeling” from buffy, with live actors a la “Rocky Horror” and Fox has shut it down.. (The people involved made a good faith agreement with a group called Criterion which evidently has some say in these things)

Fox has shut it down saying that they have no right to do this..

The big question is.. why not broker a deal. there’s no money in this for Fox. Why do this, except that they want to “protect their rights”..

Well.. look over at aintitcool or whedonesque.. Buffy fans and Browncoats know that Fox has screwed the fans for a long, long time (see: Firefly episode airing and cancellation) – and now this is mor ebad blood. Foolish, I say.. what about you?

Copyright question..

Okay.. here’s a fun one (Ben, are you listening?)

So, we all know that there was movie called “Snakes on a Plane”. Let us assume that Joe Schmoe also had a screenplay called “Snakes on a Plane”, and while it had snakes and a plane, it was otherwise, a totally different story.

Let us assume that the screenplay for the unmade film was copyrighted first, but that the writer of the other (hit film) “Snakes on a Plane” had no idea there was ever an unmade screenplay with the same name.

SO.. now there is a guy with a screenplay that the filmmakers never knew about, but he knows his copyrighted screenplay predates the film. Does he have a case?

Hey.. its only 20 bucks, and I ask everyone out there to help support independent filmmakers and myself by picking up the flick.

On a personal note, I was able to work with legend Don Dohler closely during the making of this film, which was co-directed by Don and the extremely talented Joe Ripple (Who also gives a fantastic performance).

HERE is Joe’s original post regarding the film:

Timewarp Films is proud to present it’s latest two-disc Horror DVD release, entitled “Dead Hunt.”

Synopsis;

Ten movie reviewers are invited to a party by the host of a website devoted to horror films. The party is in full swing when the power – and the lights – abruptly go out. A mysterious, black-hooded figure has cut the main wiring.

The party’s over.

After the host goes to check the circuit breakers, the guests are shocked when they find one of their fellow reviewers dispatched in a grisly fashion. Panic sets in after another reviewer is found killed in a bizarre manner. Cryptic notes left with the bodies hold the only clue to the reason for the psychopath’s rampage.

The terrified group try to evacuate the building, only to find that they can’t – all the doors have been electrified. Realizing they are trapped in a dark, foreboding warehouse with a madman, the survivors look for another way out. Their search leads them to the creepy older section of the building, where danger and death lurk in every shadow.

Can they find another way out? Can the y hide from the demented killer? Or are they all destined to become targets of the DEAD HUNT?

This two-disc special edition DVD set contains the movie, a “Behind the Scenes” featurette, deleted scenes, two alternate endings, Bloopers, a stills gallery, and the audio commentary with co-directors Joe Ripple and Don Dohler. Sadly, this was Don Dohler’s last film, as he passed away from lung and brain cancer in December, 2006. (I miss you, my friend!)

DJ Benz, a reviewer for www.Horrortalk.com writes –

“…a fun ride and one I genuinely enjoyed. I have no hesitation in recommending Dead Hunt.”

This film Premiered to a standing-room only crowd during Horrorfind Weekend, 2005.

Grief Counseling – OR – I wasn’t Bunkey’s Friend.

We’re working our way through the Office season 3, and the episode “Grief Counseling” came on, which is about the death of a coworker.

Because my life is often ironic, I went to work today at the hospital, and halfway through the night, word floated up from the ER that a coworker of mine (for whom I had picked up a shift not 24 hours prior) had suddenly and unexpectedly died tonight.

Now, our floor is in shock. We all knew this affable, friendly woman.. and she was here not 28 hours ago, laughing with us about her upcoming plans.

Now, our floor is in shock. We all knew this affable, friendly woman.. and she was here not 28 hours ago, laughing with us about her upcoming plans.

I am upset. I really liked her… but no, we weren’t friends. People here are crying, but not me.

I feel guilty for feeling sad. What right do I have to be upset, I ask myself. These others knew her well.. some for years, some knew her socially. I am affected.. I really liked her.. but I don’t deserve a sense of loss. My life will go on, unaltered y her passing.. except that I am sad she died.

It calls to mind, the tragic death of my high-School’s swimming sensation, Bunkey Lewis. I knew Bunkey. He was on the swim team with me for two years, drove me a couple of places, and encouraged me – like he did everyone.

I wasn’t Bunkey’s friend. I had never been to his house. I knew his girlfriend Shelley somewhat better, but I was just not in his social circle. He knew me by name, but couldn’t tellyou a thing about me except that I swam with him.. and that fact was reciprocated.

When Bunkey died, there was a profound sense of loss from people I DID know well. When we came back to school and saw the flag was still at full mast, I and two others defiantly brought it down to half.. because it was a tragedy for our Nation – the HS nation. For me, it was to support my friends.

Bunkey was my first taste of peer death – and I dreamed about him.. I still know his name.. I went to his funeral.. but I wasn’t his friend until after he died. To this day, I speak of him and his potential and the tragedy.. but at the time.. I felt guilty for feeling the loss I felt. What right had I to miss him. My life went on as before – where was the loss? Yet.. I grieved a bit.

Tonight I feel the same way. I sit in the background remembereing the few conversations Susan and I shared, mostly about work.. and Aerosmith. She gave me a tour bag from their last tour. And I remember Bunkey, although really I just kind of remember the glass case with his picture in it. I wonder if it is still there.

To the friends I did not have, who I will not miss, I regret your passing. I wish I had known you better.. enough to deserve the loss that is still a bit stinging. You will be remembered fondly.

BE ON TIME – or – Common Courtesy

Short one today..
I’m sitting here at work – I work a job with 24 hour staffing.

Why can I blog? Because the person supposed to relieve me is taking their sweet time.

The shift replacing me is supposed to be here at 6:45. I then give a report to the oncoming person, and I’m done by 7:15.

My replacement comes in every day at 6:55. Gets a cup of coffee.. and doesn’t begin report until 7.

Now.. I only have to deal with her a couple times a month.. (A staff of 10 comes in to replace a staff of 8) – but I cringe when I see its going to be her.

You ever deal with this?

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE? or His Story

What?!!

See, it occurred to me that over the years, we’ve debated a lot of points regarding religion and faith.. but I’m still really not sure what everyone really thinks. We debate the finer points but never really say where we stand.. so I found myself wondering.

Here’s my track…
Episcopal -> Catholic -> Right Wing Protestant Evangelical -> Centrist Protestant Christian

Which is to say that I started episcopal, became a catholic when I learned the history of the episcopal church (and cuz my Dad was one), rejected that based on theological problems (and un-christian priests), jumped the fence to being a young Jerry Falwell and have settled down into a centrist Christian faith.

Right now I believe in the teachings and deity of jesus Christ as defined by the Bible, but subscribe to no particular denomination (I’m kind of anti-religion).

This came up as I was talking to an ex-baptist atheist tonight and brought up this site, our discussions, and some of the journeys we’ve been on. I’m curious as to where YOU are.
