Running ftp command in Windows Explorer, XP.
For some reason I am unable to add and delete files and folders from my domain site. I can alter the content in the html files already existing on the site map, but can’t delete. As a result, there’s bad housecleaning and extra MBage on the domain.
I’m accessing the site with the proper U and P. Anybody else have this problem? Wondering if it’s something to do with Windows.
I tried contacting support at the domain host and they weren’t much help.

No IE…IE bad…
Dude,
Have you trying connecting using the command-line ftp? Try this:
1) Open up a command prompt (Start->Run->cmd.exe->OK 2) type ftp http://ftp.site.com 3) log in
use cd to change directories on the ftp server use lcd to change directories on your machine (the default dir is the one you’re in when you run ftp) use get and put to received and send files i.e. get index.html downloads the file index.html from the ftp server to your drive put index.html uploads the file to the ftp server delete file should delete file from the ftp server
a list of ftp commands can be found here: http://www.cs.colostate.edu/helpdocs/ftp.html
The only other thing you might want to check is to see if you need to use PASV mode or not.

I Figured Out The Problem
First Problem: Microsoft
Second Problem: Me depending on Microsoft.
Domain host also said to bag using IE as the ftp client. I now see why. Between IE and the Windows patch, there was like 3 different settings I had to change and a firewall I had to deactivate. Nuts.
I should learn the command language you listed above. I’m sure it’s a much easier way to manage files.
FTP CLient
I wouldn’t learn the language unless you have free brain cells doing nothing better than remembering Screech’s girl’s name (Melissa by the pool, baby!)
Instead, go to this link and download the free ftp client http://www.smartftp.com/
You’ll still have to muck with the firewall to allow ftp out, either by excepting the smartftp program or the appropriate ports.

What were the 3 settings you had to change? I am having the same problem.
