AKC naming…

I have 2 puppies names Morgan and Bailey. They are both female Golden Retrievers. They are AKC dogs who need an AKC name. Our last dog was named Amber. Her AKC name was “Amber Waves of Grain”. I am looking for ideas on an interesting name for Morgan and Bailey. Any Ideas?

  1. AKC?

I’m not familiar with the acronym “AKC”. What’s it mean?

      1. Barnson Etymology

Unfortunately, the etymology of my brand of “Barnson” is rather short. My grandfather, Odell Barnson, changed his last name from Bjarnasson. His father moved to the US and followed the US tradition of keeping surnames, but his father’s first name was Bjarna. It’s of Icelandic derivation.

My grandfather had three children: Betty Joe, Karen, and Bill. Bill’s my dad, and the only one who kept the last name. Bill had four sons (one biologically, three by adoption; I’m one of the three): Jeff, Jay, Brian, and Matt. So unless you’re one of Jeff’s kids whom I haven’t met, we’re not related. I’m not close to Jeff, as he’s some fifteen years older than me, an adopted brother, and we’ve very rarely seen one another.

Lots of Barnsons from southern Utah, but we’re a totally separate clan with a completely different name history.

    1. I Second

      Cap’n Morgan & Bailey’s Irish Cream

What else could you name them, unless you’re prohibitionists? 😉

      My $.02 Weed

      1. Totally!

Of course, those AKC names are always way over the top, so it would have to be something like:

Cap’n Morgan Spiced Rum Night On The Town Picking Up Chicks and Bailey’s Irish Cream Puked Up After a Night of Overindulgence

        Or something like that.

        1. puppy names

Those are great names!! Maybe you could help me?? I have a baby female boxer and we are calling her LACI. However, that isn’t good enough for the AKC…. any ideas?

          2. your idea…

VERY cute, but awfully long 🙂 See, I don’t have quite the imagination you do! That was cute!!!

          3. AKC Lab pup name suggestions

Can anyone help me with a couple of puppy names. We have a Chocolate Lab that my kids named Harley (Davidson) and a yellow lab named Torque. Any creative suggestions??? I’m drawing a blank! Thanks!!!

    2. heh

That is actually how i originally named them, Morgan is spiced Rum colored and Bailey is a lighter Irish Cream color.

  2. Bailey and Morgan

Well, you can call Bailey, “Bailey’s Irish Creme”…and of course, there’s “Top of the Morgan to You”!! I’m assuming of course that you have some Irish ancenstory, but they’re cute none the less. I had a Golden that we named “Blarney” since we got him the day before St. Patrick’s day…his ACK was “A Wee Bit O’ Blarney”. Needless to say, our last name was Flynn…Irish!!

    Good luck!

  3. AKC name for my puppy

Hi I have a yellow labrador puppy named Sadie and I havent a clue on what AKC name to give her…any ideas?

  4. AKC name for my “soon to have” new Cocker Spaniel Puppy

Hi, I have one Cocker Spaniel whose AKC name is Amazin’ Sweet Gracie. I’m looking to get another Cocker Spaniel in the next couple of weeks and can’t think of an AKC name. We want to name her either Dixie or Piper. Any suggestions for an AKC name? Thanks.

    1. Ooh! Ooh! I got one!

There’s a particular shade of yellow referred to as “Piper Cub J-3 Yellow”. This is because Piper, the aircraft manufacturer, ran low on nitrate dope as supplies dwindled after World War II. This ingredient served as a base for their “Lock Haven Yellow” color. They searched for a replacement, and eventually found it in a butyrate-dope-based paint which became “Piper Cub J-3 Yellow”. It’s an exceptionally popular color for model aircraft due to the popularity of the J-3 Cub aircraft as a scale model.

That’s my suggestion. Piper Cub J-3 Yellow. I’m out 🙂

  5. Hey, we have a 5 month old

Hey, we have a 5 month old Chocolate Lab named Charlie (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). We are having a hard time coming up with his AKC name. Any suggestions???

By the way, I was reading some of the earlier comments and read that Barnson is of Icelandic origin. My mother is from Iceland! Anyway, just thought I’d share that, since I don’t run into many of us.

    1. Charlie…

Charlie Horse in your Right Calf.

      Charlie Daniels Band Rocked Hard.

      Charlie the Loudspeaker of Mystery.

      Charlie, Keeper of the Angels.

Or in keeping with your theme…

  10. Concerned

Does this site work i asked a question and no ones responded. I mean. I dont understand

    1. Personal site…

This is a personal site with perhaps a dozen regular contributors. If you didn’t get a reply, it meant we had no ideas for you. Why not Google up somewhere else? This blog is general interest… this whole AKC naming thread is sort of off-the-wall versus what we usually talk about.

I’m going to delete all but one of your posts, because posting the same topic more than once in a topic is considered spamming.

  11. If you’re not sick of it yet…

I have a chocolate lab pup named Ridgely. We came up with the name because we used to live in Ridgely’s Delight in Baltimore, which also happens to be the birthplace of Babe Ruth. I know this name is just ripe with possibilities, but we’re struggling. Suggestions?

  12. Good heavens…

Good heavens, I now understand why we’re being flooded with AKC naming requests… this page has become the #2 most authoritative source on the Internet for AKC names according to Google.

I’m closing the thread. This often has the effect of the page becoming lower-ranked in Google over time. While I believe our small brain-trust of dedicated posters is more than competent enough to field requests for names with creative answers… I’m sick of the hassle. Sorry to anybody else who wanted to ask for advice; my advice is go to your local club and ask instead!
