SportsCenter — Not A Fan Anymore

I know this is going to ruffle some feathers, but I wanted to announce my displeasure with SportsCenter.

I know this is going to ruffle some feathers, but I wanted to announce my displeasure with SportsCenter.

Is anyone else out there frustrated with their over-the-top, obnoxious style? I like watching the highlights and news…you know actual reporting of the facts? SportsCenter reached the point long ago at which they started making themselves the story. It went from being cute and irreverent to manipulative and flashy.

So, today, although still a fan of ESPN in general, I won’t watch SportsCenter. And The Best Damn Sports Show Period is even worse.

Where can a guy/gal go to get scores and highlights?

  1. Pie?

Well, considering that the last time I watched a professional sporting event on television was the Superbowl, and the only time I really care to watch sports is live with my kids at the stadium…

    …umm, I like pie?

  2. Have children

    Sam,

Usually I get to watch Sportscenter when the kids are asleep (early Saturdays or the 11 one at night). So when I watch it, I have the sound muted. It’s actually quite enjoyable.

As a side note, it’s quite a “Dark Side Of The Wizard Of Oz” moment to turn on Rugrats, mute it, and have “Paul’s Boutique” playing. It’s hilarious if you get the timing right. It’s like little animated Ad Rocks and Mike Ds running around.

    1. Oh yeah…

And as for Sportscenter, those guys are just trying to be the next guy to make it big, like Craig Kilborn…

Oh, I meant Keith Olbernman No no no, I meant Greg Gumbel

It’s nothing but a stand-up audition mixed with sports highlights

Like I said above, mute is king!

      1. Great idea!

As Matt already mentioned, we don’t watch sports at our house. I’m sure someday we will since we have three boys. They all like to play ball, but for now computer games is much more intriguing.

Besides muting the TV, my suggestion is just read the scores out of the newspaper! —

  3. No doubt

ESPN is becoming just like MTV. What happened to the sports???? I will give them credit on Baseball Tongight, Joanna and I watch religiously and enjoy watching the highlights. The reason that show is so great is because they have so many games in such little time, they don’t have a chance to let their over-inflated egos come out. Now they’re going game shows like the newleywed game for teamates?!?!?! Are you kidding me? I’m with you Sam, if it weren’t for Baseball Tonight (and when they show out-of-are Nats games or any Cards games for Joanna), I wouldn’t watch it at all
