A talented piano player was found wandering the shoreline in England. Doctors and police want to know who he is.
Although I have no idea who the man is, I totally identify with this statement by one of the doctors:
Playing the piano seems to be the only way he can control his nerves and his tension and relax. When he is playing he blanks everything else out. He pays attention to nothing but the music.
That’s me. That’s the ultimate reason why I play. It calms me down. I think that’s one of the reasons I play less as a married father of four: I’m naturally much calmer than I used to be.
But still, the case is mysterious. It will be interesting to see what this man’s actual background is, if it can be found.
–What a sad story. Even in
–What a sad story. Even in his picture he looks very depressed and removed. I certainly hope that he has someone looking for him. What is it that drove the man into such a state where all he wants to do is play? So many question’s. My thought’s are that the poetry of music is the only thing that may even compare to the love he must have had. Teresa the Flautist and fire dancer
My goodness. This is the kind
My goodness. This is the kind of story you expect to find in a novel or a movie, but not in real life. I must admit I’m fascinated; I hope there are follow-ups to this first article.
It’s interesting. I’m also a piano player, have been for years, but while I get a great deal of enjoyment from playing, I’ve never hit that point of being “lost in the music,” nor have I found that it calms me to a noticable degree. This is probably because I’m far too much of a perfectionist, at least musically. I can’t just sit and play. Instead, I’m always critiquing myself AS I’m playing a piece: that phrasing was a little off, that section should have been forte but you played it mezzoforte, try hitting the right notes next time… this is the sort of stuff running in the background of my mind as I play.
They always say an artist’s worst enemy is herself. I imagine that learning to just “get out of the way” of my music will take my entire life.

Except spiders. Spiders freak the hell out of me.”
Lost
I guess the concept of being “Lost” in the music works like this.. you close your eyes.. your fingers know where to go.. you’re singing a song, or just playing the notes.. and you stop thinking for a minute about the notes you’re playing.. you’re just “feeling” the music come out of you..
For me, its almost like that feeling singing in the shower when I’m there on a piano. It doesn’t happen often.. but when it does, its magical.
the lost piano man
maybe he knows exactely who he is? where he is and what he’s doing? maybe he just wanna go, for a while, out of this world, to be without identity? maybe he’s playing a role and perhaps that he’s thinking, right now, what a lot of foolish people are on this planet and he is laughing at us! and maybe he is really lost… anyway, I like this story and I really hope we would find out who is the lost piano man! cheers flo
Piano Man
It seems odd to me that a person with a talent like this fellow has can be lost to those who taught him or nutured his talent for the years of his training. Can it be that whoever is his family or friends are could have left him to wander the world – or at least England?? Does he have a true memory problem? Is he faking a problem in the hope of getting a recording contract as a ‘Mute’ person??? Lots of unanswered questions.
The Piano Man
He could possibly be the Anti-Christ, remember Satan was also a music lover.
That explains…
That explains Yanni.

RE: Who is Piano Man>
Saw this on Dateline news. My suggestion is that he is AUTISTIC. He can not talk because he cannot. He may be a SAVANT AUTISTIC, because this is what my autism is called. My skill is in art and can only draw animals. Perhaps he can only draw pianos and play them. If he can draw, maby if someone plays with him musically or with toys, he will become focused and respond more. Good luck. It is hard to get an adult autistic out of disassociation. LES
Piano Man
I taped the segment on Dateline and just watched it today. It seemed obvious as the mother of an autistic child that that was the case with the piano man. I listened to all the “experts” and their theories. It just goes to show that so much more needs to be learned. The fact that he didn’t speak, had the tags taken out of his clothes (they can’t stand the feeling of tags) and could draw and play the piano were pretty obvious clues. That he wanted the same clothes everyday (need for sameness) and became agitated when approached. God Bless him and his family I’m sure they were out of options maybe up in age and had no one to care for him. Its a very scary thought knowing what it takes to care for someone with autism.
I saw this story on Dateline.
I saw this story on Dateline. This guy is autistic and apraxic. I have a son with the same thing. People need to leave him alone. Maybe something happened to his parents or caretaker and he wandered off. He definitely does not have amnesia. He is autistic!!!!
