Kind of wry…
It’s kind of wry and clever, but I don’t get the humor. I think this is why I stopped watching Saturday Night Live. It’s entertaining, but I just don’t get it most of the time.

Very Beastie-ish
The style of the video was very similar to recent Beastie Boys videos. The humor I think was that they were rapping “hard-core” about very young-white-geek themes. Narnia, Ghost, The Notebook, Mr Pibb?
I thought it was funny, and very well done, but didn’t have that “ultimate hilarity” factor going for it.
Also, “The Chronic” was a monster rap album by Doctor Dre. Doctor Dre is the king of modern-day rap, and that album was HUGE. So the Chronic-les of Narnia is a play on that, as well as chronic being a slang term for, well, Weed 😉
It’s funny the family trees you can get into with these. In the rap world, specifically gangsta rap, you had NWA in the beginning, which was Easy-E, Ice Cube, Dr Dre, and MC Ren. Of those four, Ice Cube is a relatively big actor (The Friday movies, Three Kings, etc) as well as a somewhat successful rapper, Dr. Dre is the biggest name in rap (producing such artists as Snoop Dogg and Eminem), Easy-E has some success but died of AIDS, and MC Ren did time in the big house.
Going back even further, NWA and all other rappers from the day sampled Parliament Funkadelic. You can see who sampled them here: http://www.duke.edu/~tmc/motherpage/list-samples.html By all means, not an exhaustive list, but without P-Funk there may not have ever been any rap.
A little too much background, maybe, but that’s what blogs are for.
My $3.67 Weed
Wow. Way too much fun.
Wow. Way too much fun. 🙂 White guys throwing themselves into absurdity with such zeal that they somehow come out the other side of ridicule and actually end up looking kind of cool.
“They call me Aaron Burr cause I drop so many Hamiltons.”
That’s gold, man. Gold.
