Audio Blog?

So I’m thinking it might be kind of fun to do a twenty-minute Podcast with somebody else on barnson.org. Topic TBD, but be ready with some jokes 🙂

Anybody game? I could set up a Teamspeak server and probably wire a telephone to a sound system so we could interview some telephone “guest”. Could be fun. Takers?

    1. Oh that sounds wild. I have

Oh that sounds wild. 🙂 I have no idea whether I’d be remotely interesting, but I’d always be willing to give it a try.

      1. Most aren’t…

From my sampling of Podcasts, most are not remotely interesting unless they happen to be on a topic you’re into.

        1. How About

          How about these topics:

Belief vs Religion: The whole freakin’ board The One versus The Many: Daniel, Sam, Rowan Josh Whedon is My Hero: Matt, Justin IT Support in Laymans Terms: Matt, Weed, Rowan Economics In The Bass Clef: Sam Tenor Law: Ben

I’d be interested in humorous participation. I do a mean Marin the Martian voice, as well as Elmo and Humpty Hump.

          My $.02 Weed

          1. Death trap

I’d never get into the ring with Sam. Wasn’t it Sam that represented the Democratic candidate in a high-school telecast “Presidential” debate in 1988? As I recall, he fielded a question that we hadn’t prepped for and answered it better (without actually answering it, as later analysis revealed) than the Republican proxy did.

Am I making all of this up?

          2. Memory and Casting

Daniel, I am truly impressed. How do you remember all this? We’re going to start nicking you ‘The Elephant.’

I’ve been a dedicated podcast listener for the past 9 months. I agree with you Matt in that the cast won’t be consistently interesting to others unless there’s a specific topic. The podcast would also need, at the minimum, semi-pro radio production qualities, including back music, script, personality/talent, rehearsal, etc.

I’ve become obsessed with Benjamen Walker’s Theory of Everything. I can’t stop listening to the episodes over and over. It reminds me of the movie ‘Pump Up The Volume,’ in which an individual is presented with the gear and opportunity to mass broadcast and the secret, basement outpouring turns out to be ingenious…

    1. My house, Sunday morning?

How about my house, Sunday morning on February 19? I’ll see about setting up a SHOUTCast server on our shared box or something, and maybe we can use Teamspeak (or maybe Skype?) to do a dial-in.

I think it would be cool if we can “interview” someone on a topic. Keeps it fresh, otherwise we’re just talking to ourselves for an hour.

Ooh, maybe we could make up some cool spoof commercials to run so we can get a potty break?

Now what really would be a good topic to cover that’s interesting? I’ve been listening to some podcasts this week and finding most of them pretty boring. Here are the most popular topics on this site:

      • Star Wars
      • Tying Shoes
      • Migrating IMAP mailboxes
      • Free Powerbook scams
      • IT salaries

Here are the most heavily-participated-in discussions, which I think would be far more interesting than just the most popular stuff:

      • Religion
      • The War in Iraq
      • The effect of humans on the environment
      • Reminiscing about personal history
      • Odd language quirks (like “The Needful”)
      • Economy cause and effect
      • Torture and murder
      • Polygamy
      • Disease
      • The reliability of Internet research
      • Online scams (ooh, this could be a lot of fun… call up those penis-enlargement sales places?)
      • Raising kids in a religiously-pluralistic environment
      • Gun Control
      • Liberalism vs. Conservatism
      • Geek programming and text-editing tools
      • The usefulness of online communities
      • Worst Jobs Ever
      • Books with Titles that Provoke People (like “Godless”)
      • Terry Schiavo (right to life, death w/dignity, all that)
      • Crap written by Mark Twain
      • Gay Marriage
      • The Redskins/Packers/Insert Sports Team Here
      • Googling yourself
      • The Rapture
      • Copyright Law and Internet Distribution
      • Showing off music we wrote (ooh, this could be cool… showcasing music written by barnson.org folks, acting like actual DJs?)
      • Embarassing baby stories
      • Being an ex-mormon in Utah (kind of steps on the toes of TheChurchIsNotTrue.com)

And stuff I think just might be fun:

      • Interview my brother Jay about independent game development
      • Record a tracting session attempting to distribute pamphlets in some neighborhood for a farcical product, like a water softener, and see who buys in
      • Pick up unusual, expired foods at dollar stores and give on-the-spot reviews on flavor and consistency

Wow, that’s a lot of crap to dig through to find a good topic…

      1. I’d happily talk about any

I’d happily talk about any of those topics, although I must warn you all that while you may have come to be used to my irrascible wit and effulgent charm, that’s only my writing persona. When forced to come up with stuff on the spot, I quickly become the socialist village idiot.

Also, I’ll have to miss the maiden voyage on the 19th, as I will be in London. But good luck!

    2. Or better yet…

Better yet… maybe a session with the ladies?

I’m trying to imagine some combination of Christy, Dawn, Michelle, Shani, Dani, Amy, Kelly, Andrea, Teresa, etc. Oy!

Yeah, it could be the “Geezing” podcast. There’s all sorts of subjects about which we could nostalgically reminisce:

      The aforementioned “Wayward Sun” chat
