Job Satisfaction

I like my current employer for the most part from the stand point that pay isn’t bad, hours are good, and benefits expense is within reason.

For some reason I have hit this “motivational wall

  1. Burnout

    It’s called Burnout.

The only method I’ve found to cope with it is to re-arrange my priorities. When I think about the projects I need to complete in terms of the next thing I want to do at home (new plane or whatever), the motivation’s there.

I reached that point where I wasn’t interested in “advancing” my career anymore. I was making a good wage for a good company, doing something I legitimately enjoyed doing, yet I wasn’t able to conjure interest like I used to. I developed some side jobs and hobbies, and my interest was renewed.

  2. Work sucks

My Dad once said to me that work is what you go through so you can have what you want at home. So many people see work as the driving force in their lives, and it will always let you down.

I am public about the fact that while I’m a good RN, and I get some satisfaction in helping my patients and saving the occasional life, I really dont like being at work. I dread going in and I cant wait till I leave. While I’m there, I give 110%, but I am not now nor will I ever be passionate about it.

I like it every other friday. Now I’m putting too fine a point on it.. there are good thigns that happen, but in general when asked how my day was, i say “awful”.

So I agree with Matt, I am happier in general when my focus is on the next thing at home, or the next album or play or movie. And at work, that helps me to keep a better attitude.

  3. Me, too.

I am also experiencing burnout. I find no satisfaction in scrubbing, changing diapers and doing laundry. I get tired of picking up toys, shoes, garbage and who knows what else. Matt often encourages me to go get a job so that I can feel satisfied, but nothing will change at home. I’ll still be the one prodding kids to do homework and chores, and the dishes will still pile up.

Life goes on and I deal with it similar to Matt. I have things to look forward to. I set up dates with my sweet honey for every weekend. I get together with the ladies to do lunch or dinner. I signed up for a dance class and I go to Curves to exercise as often as I can.

The daily grind will always be exactly that. Find a hobby and give yourself something to look forward to on a regular basis. It’s kinda like rewarding yourself for your hard work.

    And good luck with that!–

  4. Something going around…

I don’t have any suggestions of how to get out of the funk you’re in; but my husband is going through the same thing. He is so fed up with work. He says there is too much work and no support from the big wigs at all. He is very frustrated and is currently looking for other jobs while he continues this one. Hopefully he’ll find something and I wish you well also.
