So, we’ve isolated on two locations for the Barnsonian Pre-QOHS Reunion event for July 7th. Rather than use the poll option, I figured I would go with just throwing the two options out there and see if there’s a consensus.
Lisa says that unfortunately Friendly’s at Quince Orchard Plaza is no more. That’s not one of the options. Shucks – think of how much fun we could have had waiting in line for a booth. Those were hours we won’t get back, right?
First choice: the classic Old Town Gaithersburg restaurant Roy’s Place. Check out http://www.roysplacerestaurant.com/ to see their menu (number 7 on the menu might give you a sense of the place if you’ve not been before.) This is one of my families’ favorite spots. There’s no separate room but we can pull tables together and enjoy ourselves. We do group events with out-of-town family there all the time. As I said to Matt via e-mail, it’s got character. Chime in if you are familiar with Roy’s.
Second choice: Chevy’s at Quince Orchard Plaza. It does have a separate room. The chain’s site is http://www.chevys.com/.
For the sake of not having the whole world join us, I thought I’d try to keep the particular start-time off the blog, and instead, I’ll take RSVPs at timclarkejr@gmail.com and be able to disseminate information to just the interested parties.
So, who’s in? What are everyone’s thoughts on the choices?
Tim
I’m there 🙂
I’m there, and I’m in for Roy’s Place.
Realistically, I think it’s fine if we get a few party-crashers at Roy’s Place. I’m thinking 7 PM for a start, spend a couple hours at Roy’s or Chevy’s (though Roy’s has my vote), then around 9 or so head back to Justin’s house for those who want to continue to hang out and yap, catch up, have a few drinks, or whatever.

Game…
Sounds good to me, I emailed Tim last night. Either place will work for us, I am more looking forward to catching up with everyone.
Roy’s
Heck, why not.. Roys, I trust Tim.

Remember what I do for a living…
I am in ‘public relations,’ which by definition means I shouldn’t be trusted. But, it’s nice to hear once in a while.
OK, I think our current head count stands at 8, but the more the merrier. As others check in, I am sure the party will grow.
head count..
Yeah, who we got.. Matt, Christy, Me, kelly, Tim, Lisa?, Jon, anyone with jon?, Rowan? anyone with Rowan?, weed?, anoyone?.. who else? Ben? Dani? Is Sam coming? Did I hear Daniel was coming?

IIRC, Ben
IIRC, Ben mentioned that he’d be out-of-town that weekend, unfortunately.
Please plan on Andrea Barnson, my sister-in-law, as well. She used to participate here now and again, but has been pretty quiet lately 🙂 I’ve invited her, though. I’ll ask her to RSVP here.
Roy’s place, show up sometime between 7:00 and 7:30. We’ll plan on appetizers and stuff until the real food shows up. Plan to pay for yourselves, since I sure as heck can’t afford to feed everybody, though I’d really like to.
I’m trying to locate a few more old friends who have dropped in here or who I’ve otherwise run across in the blogosphere. Jen Gagne is one of the few who come to mind.

The 2 of us
Michelle and I will looking forward to it, kids will be at home 🙂
Sweet!
Jon,
That’ll be sweet. Hey, we wanted to know which day is better for us to come hang out with you in Harper’s: Saturday or Sunday? Of course, we have the gala Sat. night, so it would be a somewhat early day, but Sunday’s wide-open at this point.
—
Matthew P. Barnson
Either one …
Either one is good for us. Probably be easier to do Sunday so you aren’t having to trek all the way out to WV and then back to G’burg for the event.
Let me know what works for you…
Talk to you later…
Friday
Hey, We’ll reserve you for Friday. (We’ll have you thurs nite too, so its all good) I’ll be shooting a commercial that morning but should be back by Noon at the latest. Kel wont be back until right before dinner. Please Keep in mind that We’ll be gone for the most part Saturday, so it would be a good day if you wanted to take Christy to DC or Something.
Oh, and I dont know if anyone cares, but Pirates opens that Fri.
Visit the Official Justin Timpane Website Music, Acting, and More! http://www.timpane.com
Appointments…
So far, our only other appointment is to visit my sister-in-law and neice Andrea and Genna on Sunday at 1 PM at Chevy’s. I think I’d like to spend Saturday with my wife visiting DC and just hanging out together, and plan on visiting Jon on Sunday evening around 5 PM or so. We’ll head back whenever.
Oh, and remember my weird sleep schedule… I take a short nap every four hours, and only sleep for about 90 to 180 minutes a night. Guess I need to bring my keyboard and laptop with me to MD and get some recording in for the next video game. Or maybe I’ll just drop off my schedule while I’m there, and deal with the jet lag when I get back and go to work the same day (night) I return…

Matthew P. Barnson
Thats cool..
We’ll stay up late the night you arrive most likely (probably like 2) ,and then i’ll be getting up at like 5 or so (eek!) for the shoot, so I’ll need a quick afternoon nap to catch up! An hour should do me just fine.
“Who needs sleep, youre never gonna get it.”

Still up in the air
I have family in from Vegas that weekend, but I may be able to slip out for 6 hours (!) or so to make it. I’ll know better after this weekend.
Barring something major
Barring something major coming up, count me in. 🙂
Count me in too..
I’ll head that direction after work on Friday night. — Bryan
AFTER DINNER
BTW: Who, if anyone is planning to join us for drinks afterward? Wifey wants to know who to expect.
Visit the Official Justin Timpane Website Music, Acting, and More! http://www.timpane.com
Drinks..
Probably won’t mamke it for drinks, We’ll have to make the drive back to get the kids from the neighbors.
Aww..
Kids LOVE drinks…
Visit the Official Justin Timpane Website Music, Acting, and More! http://www.timpane.com
We’d be up for it
Barring something developing between today and next week, we’d be up for drinks post-party. The kids will be at the beach so we’re free the whole weekend. So, if you can handle two more, we’re in.
Didnt I ever tell you..
Dude, youre always welcome.

Question for the members of Class on 91
I know when the first emails came out there was talk of making it a weekend long event. Have you guys heard of any activities going on other than the actual reunion on Sat?
Also, depending on how late dinner runs, I may come over for drinks too. Thats if Justin and wifey dont mind. — Bryan
No news on other events
I just received an e-mail earlier today from one of the reunion planners and there was no mention of any other events. I recall the same thing Bryan mentioned – like they were considering a Sunday afternoon family event. I guess nothing came to pass.
Just got the note…
Yeah, I just got the note from Daniella about the Holiday Inn deal… I found myself thinking “$75 a ticket? Wow, that’s expensive!”… then I read the part that says “Open Bar” and I went, “Ahh, that’s why.”
We’re subsidizing other people drinking heavily 😉 But I guess it may make it easier to deal with… truth be told, I’m kind of nervous about seeing all the @$$H0135 who picked on me in High School. I mean, we’re all adults, and normally bygones are bygones, but I seriously haven’t seen most of these people in decades. And my last memories of a lot of folks were not pleasant…
Ahh, well. At least we’ll all see that most of us have gotten chubby, most of us have gotten married, and most of us are family-folks or something now! Pretty normal all around, really…
Hey, any clue how you guys are dressing? I’m going for “business casual”, because that’s basically how I dress all the time. Short-sleeve shirt, slacks, and some nice shoes.

Matthew P. Barnson
About the 10 year reunion…
I was nervous like you going into the 10 year. But after I got there and walked around, I ended up having a blast. Talked with Laurie M., Tara Z.(now Tara S.)Mike Jones and Greg Horn. After the reunion went to a bar with a bunch of the people some former Jocks, some former Bandies. Then ended up for a post reunion party at one of the cheerleaders houses. It seemed like basically everyone forgot about whatever role you played at QOHS and treated everyone like people.
I’m planning on wearing slacks and a button up shirt, but leaving a tie and jacket in the car incase I feel underdressed. — Bryan
I had heard noise…
I had heard noise about it turning into a 3-day event, but so far I’m only planning on making the gala on Saturday night. We have enough to do while we’re in DC that I’m sure we won’t be bored!
Staying with Justin and Kelly the whole time. Thanks J & K! You saved us a bundle on hotels…
Our preliminary schedule is: Thursday: Leave Salt Lake City at 12:17 PM US/EDT Arrive Washington Reagan (DCA) at 4:35 PM Pick up car, head to Justin’s house, arrive around 6 or 7 PM. Hang out until late, talk too much, laugh too much, etc.
Friday: Dinner in the evening with everybody. Nothing scheduled for the day, but if Justin doesn’t have enough stuff he wants to do, I’m sure we can find ways to keep busy! Would like to visit a few old friends this day if I can, but if not, that’s fine too.
Saturday: Heading to Jon’s house in the morning. Heading to the gala in the evening. Knowing how Jon and I can get to talking — and how much alike Christy and Melissa are — that’s a full day!
Sunday: Open, at this point. We had a misunderstanding with my sister-in-law regarding when we were going to be in town, and may have totally missed each other, unfortunately. Might be busy from around 1 to 4 or so.
Monday: Flying out at 5:30
So that’s it, really. I really don’t feel like a tourist when I’m back in Maryland! Kinda’ happens when you’re raised there… anyway, at some point Christy and I will spend a little time sightseeing, but that’s absolutely last priority behind visiting people we know.

Yeah!!!
–I can’t wait to see everyone on Friday night. I am also glad that it is at Roy’s Place. That is where I had my first job from the age of 15 through high school. Thankyou to Matt for emailing me about it. I know I haven’t been on in a long while but… I still can’t wait. Till then. Teresa the Flautist and fire dancer
Rock on!
Teresa, glad to hear you can make it! We’re stoked about seeing everybody.

For anyone planning on attending…
Just for the sake of giving the nice owner/operators of Roy’s Place a heads-up, I was hoping to get a head count. I lost track at some point, now I think we’re somewhere in the 12 to 14-person range. (Of course, allowing for the possible pop-in.) If someone has a better recollection, let me know, and I’ll adjust the size of the table they can put together for us.
And we’re looking forward to it, too. See you all tomorrow!

–My husband might be comming. So add one just in case. Teresa the Flautist and fire dancer
And Jon is +1, right?
I think Jon said it would be he and his wife. So that’s on the order of 10 or 11. I’ll keep the table set at a few more than that so we can welcome all comers to the party.
I think Matt’s traveling already so he won’t get the benefit of the forecast, but last I checked we’re supposed to get a few days of dry, moderately cool weather.
Good stuff, see folks tomorrow then.
plus 2
I’ll be there, with my wife. Might be a touch on the late side, but we’re definitely coming.
I’m There
I’m crashing the party! Bryan told me about everyone getting together and I thought it would be great to see everyone.

Directions to Roys
How does one get there from the Beltway?
Andwhat’s the gathering time, again?
Directions
The restaurant has some directions on their site – http://www.roysplacerestaurant.com/directions.html. I asked Google to do directions from Montgomery Mall, close to the Beltway. Click on the Tiny URL http://tinyurl.com/jbm5w which hopefully works. It’s tough to describe – you take Clopper Road east until it becomes West Diamond Avenue, then you turn left onto a side street, a right on Chestnut, over the train tracks, then a right onto East Diamond towards old town Gaithersburg. The restaurant is just past the other side of the overpass, on the left side. If you get to the intersection of Diamond and Summit, you’ve gone too far.
You can also come in from 355, headed from Shady Grove/370, then turn right onto Summit, and left on Diamond. Roys is on the right right near the overpass. If you get to the car wash, you’ve gone too far.
For the sake of convenience, and since my cell is already a public number, if you are turned around, call me at 301 814 2678. We’ll get there a little early.
Too far
Too far, but not too late, right? According to aerial photography supplied to Microsoft, you can cut through the car wash/gas station parking lot to connect to Diamond, then exit and turn left. Roy’s is just under the overpass (355). Is that the right place?
Yes, I think that works and that’s the right place
Regardless, you could turn left onto Chestnut from 355, then left onto Diamond.
Start TIme: 7pm
Which had been previously discussed, and that is when Roy’s is expecting us.
OK, that’s enough posts for now…
Who are you?
So I was goofing around on the computer, and was trying to figure out who you are, Tara… and I came up empty. I’m the site admin, so I have access to all the user records and email addresses, and couldn’t figure out how I know you.
Thanks!

Is that Tara Z from Drama Club?
Bryan mentioned Tara Z (now Tara S) in his post above. I know Lisa and I have seen Tara once, at a St Patrick’s Day parade years ago in Gburg. In either case, see you tonight!
Matt’s getting forgetful in his old age.
It is Tara Z from drama club, class of 91. Move to MD from NY, brought her accent with her. 🙂 — Bryan
We await the Matthew
