Layout changes, upgrade, files

So I made a few layout changes and upgrades (notably, to Drupal 4.7; that was actually a little hairy due to database inconsistencies!). I’m going to enable file uploading here shortly in order to fulfill a request by Sammy G to be able to upload files.

I also brought back the Google ads. Initially, they brought in few bucks a day, which almost covered my fraction of the hosting expenses I have with my hosting partner, but eventually it trickled down to like 15 cents a day which wasn’t worth it. I’m giving it another shot, as I’m driving about three times as much traffic now as then! Kind of weird, that.

Anyway, I’ll post when file uploading works. Feedback on layout welcome, as I made a few layout changes to accomodate the Google block again.

  1. Hilarious Barns

And, I think it is hilarious that almost all the ads right now are for BARNS. Heh. That’s what I get for being the Son of a Barn, I suppose.

  2. Changes…

So I made the following changes:

    • File upload is enabled! Only if you’re a “barnson”… if I haven’t promoted you yet, and I know you, send me a private message to remind me to promote you. You can upload files via the “File Attachment” field when you post a new blog. You can’t attach files to comments, just to nodes (blogs). Someone please try this out and upload a video or something to make sure it works for someone other than me!
    • Re-enabled anonymous user posting. Captchas are back (the little weird text images) so we can do this safely, I think.
    • Upgraded to Drupal 4.7.3
    • Removed the “spam” module… it wasn’t doing anything anyway, with captchas enabled.
    • Allowed anonymous access to user profiles. Your info is protected, it’s just the publicly-viewable stuff that’s enabled.
    • Removed smilies. They’re broken in the current release; I’ll work on fixing them. I particularly like the  or :barf: smilies.

    More fixes to come.

      1. Sorry about that

Yeah, sorry about that, my header links came out FUBARd from the upgrade, so I had to rearrange them. I don’t like the current arrangement much. I think I need to fix them.

  3. What’s this blight on my right?

Barnson, you’ve sold out to the man!

I need to find me a good “independent” blog, eh Sammy?

Calendar’s a nice feature–is that new? How do I add my birthday? 😉

    1. double-check your URI

You may want to double-check your URI that you’re going to “http://barnson.org/” rather than “http://www.barnson.org/” or something like that.

I also made previewing comments mandatory due to an exploit spammers are using to work around my captcha system. I should have a fix for that within a few days.
