An interesting article on MSNBC that discusses a group of illegal aliens that are now suing Wendy’s.
I have not looked into the particulars any more than reading the article. It sounds like a groups of aliens snuck their way into the US (thorugh whatever means). They found employent thorugh Wendy’s. Since enforcement of federal laws covering imigration have become more in the forefront wendy’s seems to have offered a sponsorship program to aid the immigrants to become legal.
Wendy’s missed a filing deadline which forced them to fire the illegals. They have filed suit against Wendy’s.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out, Talk about playing the system.
Depends on the state…
Every state has different employment laws. The fact is, most laws don’t distinguish between citizens and non-citizens. Up until the 1980’s, we didn’t have effective enforcement of immigration laws. Until 1882, we didn’t even have any immigration laws at all in the US. In 1882, we levied a 50-cent head tax, and precluded the immigration of idiots, lunatics, convicts, and persons likely to become a public charge. And, at that time, anybody Chinese. We’ve always been a racist, bigoted country. The current antipathy towards Mexicans is just following true-to-form.
Anyway, in 1891 we began excluding polygamists, persons convicted of crimes of moral turpitude, and those suffering loathsome or contagious diseases. At that point, we decided it was necessary to create a federal office to manage these exclusions. Since that time, the regulations regarding immigration have become Byzantine, and I think that labyrinth is a big part of the reason people choose to come illegally.
A key issue I see with the current immigration situation is that there is a growing trend south of the border to regard areas in the US from Texas westward as “their land”. With mounting population pressures at home, the effort to immigrate illegally and be an opportunist for however much one can get is a state-supported effort. The Mexican-American war is the subject of propaganda encouraging those currently residing in Mexico to take back the territories of Texas, New Mexico, and California.
Yeah. It’s been over 150 years, but some people still remember the Alamo, I guess.
I see a simple solution: make Mexico the 51st US state. Yeah, it would dramatically alter the racial composition of the USA, but so what? At least we’d have cheap cabana boys.

Losing count
Don’t you mean 52nd? Oh wait, that’s right…Canada’s not officially a state yet.
Yes
Well of course they can bring a lawsuit. Foreigners can bring lawsuits in American courts, provided that they meet certain procedural rules.
Whether they’ll win is another matter.
