I just couldn’t pass this up:
Losin’ It: A Star Wars virgin sits through all six episodes of Star Wars.
About episode one, he opines, “The movie comes off as childish and vague, and the script is notably weak. But this is my first time, and nobody’s first time is perfect; there would inevitably be some bumps along the road.”
About all the episodes and how they hang together, “The worlds that Lucas created are certainly magical and wondrous. Thanks to the digital updates, the flow between the two trilogies was surprisingly seamless…”
Kinda’ fun to read the experience of someone who’s never seen the movies. Growing up with them, I didn’t expect some of his reactions, particularly regarding the shrinking size of the galaxy as the movie progressed.
And, of course, there’s commentary for this story on Slashdot.
hm
Interesting to watch the six movies from 1-6, rather than 4-6 and then 1-3. I don’t have time to watch this now, but I’d be interested to see how the story holds together when viewed that way.
I don’t think I’d ever show a virgin the movies in that order, for fear that after #2, they wouldn’t want to go on.

Will watch them 4-6, 1-3. The way nature intended 🙂

Suggested order…
I’ve seen 4,5,1,2,3,6 repeatedly suggested as an ideal order which preserves some of the drama better for first-time viewers. Of course, you need them to be watching with someone to say, “OK, now, we’re going to watch episodes 1,2, and 3 as an extended flashback before 6.”

yep
Mine as well. Joey’s already seen 4, and loves it. Whenever anyone is using a lightsaber, Joey yells “Sword him! Sword him!”
I did read the article, and definitely think it’s best to start with 4. Not only is it a far better movie than 1, but from what the author said, watching 1 without any knowledge of the Force or Jedi or whatever would make it an even *worse* movie.
Waiting until after 1-3 to watch 6 might be interesting though.
