  1. Saw it, loved it…

I went to see Cloverfield in the theaters on Friday night for the express purpose of seeing this trailer on the big screen – and it didn’t disappoint. What a beautiful few seconds of seeing the ship back on the big screen. Awesome trailer…and now so pscyhed for December 25 now.

Cloverfield was fun, especially if you like monster movies. But be warned, if you are at all prone to motion sickness then this movie might be something to avoid. Camera bounces non stop. Good flick though, worth a matinee I would say.

    1. Loved Blair Witch..

But had to step out twice.. may have to do it on TV.. which is fine b/c its a video camera anyway.. so it will work there.

Oh.. and the 2nd bourne movie.. yikes.

      1. Bourne 2

That’s the sole reason I hated Bourne2. The story was fine, but the shaky camera work made my wife sick and made me very, very annoyed and slightly nauseated. Here and there, it’s OK, but all the way through the movie? Well, looks like I may be giving Cloverfield a pass no matter how good it is.

    2. Cloverfield

I also enjoyed it a lot. A must see for any monster movie fan, if for no other reason than it’s such a wonderful PoV for the genre.

I didn’t find the camera bounce to be nearly as bad as Blair Witch… I wonder if that’s because they knew that’s what people would be worried about and edited accordingly. Unlike Blair Witch, it really is professional cameramen holding the cameras… and they’re much higher quality machines than a standard home video camera would be.

  2. Hmm…

Trailer seems cool, but as I watched it for the 3rd time I had a thought… With all the technological advancements that they have, wouldn’t they have something more advanced than a standard welder to put the Enterprise together?

    1. The Welder

I felt like the welder was a deliberate choice… it let us know that this Star Trek film was not going to be the effortlessly sleek, no rough edges in the technology sort of thing we’d come to expect from DS9 and Voyager. It really felt like hearkening back to an earlier time.

OK, an earlier time that’s still 300 years in the future, but still.

      1. ds9

In fact thats why I loved ds9.. the station was utilitarian, broke a lot.. and the cheif was a do it yourself kinda guy.

As badass as the defiant was, when you got back to federations ships, it lost some of that realness.
