The Disappearing Pencil Trick

Most memorable scene of the new Batman movie, “The Dark Knight”: The Disappearing Pencil Trick. Not a doubt in my mind. One of the most memorable and subtly gruesome scenes ever.

Seen the movie yet?

    1. Disagree

That’s the great thing about this movie — even a scene as cool as this one was not “by far” the best. The rest of the movie was great too.

    2. pencil trick movie

agree that it was the coolest part, but, frankly speaking, i didn’t really like the film. few episodes were really interesting, but the rest…

  1. I also felt that the movie

I also felt that the movie in general was a wonderful demonstration of why there has never been a weapon invented more viscerally frightening than the knife.

Nuclear missiles… sure, from a logical, mental perspective, but holding a knife, hovering, inside someone’s mouth… that elicits one hell of a gut reaction.

    1. Afraid and not afraid

I’m not really afraid of dying. Nonexistence holds no emotion for me one way or the other. The emotionally and physically painful bits that lead up to it are what frighten me.

  2. Solid A Minus

SO close to an A+.. BUT..

The Batman voice.. LOVE it for action.. but the speeches in that voice.. and he always seemed out of breath, pausing for breath at weird times. Yeah I know he’s trying to hide it (from Lucius.. why?) but still..

SPOILER.. STOP READING!!! You were warned.

The “death” of Harvey. is he dead? No? We aren’t told, nor are we given what seems like deliberate ambiguity. He’s breathing on the ground.. but then he has a big funeral.. but he fell from shorter distances than Meroni or Rachel. There was never a clear.. Harvey’s dead.. (or a “is harvey Dead?”) moment.

    BUT..

Still LOVE it. Joker.. Amazing. Gary Oldman.. incredible. Action.. beautiful. Post 9-11 comparative allegory about America’s role in the world (c’mon.. right down to illegal phone taps to stop a terrorist), gotcha. Its a smart, thrilling ride… and the best of the year (although I haven’t yet seen Wall-E).
