Creating An Exact DVD Duplicate

I need to know how to create an exact replica of an install DVD. I have a 100% legal copy of a popular office software program that was bought with legal tender. I then had to send the DVD on to another office. To have a working backup copy of the original DVD on-hand, I tried ripping an .iso file and then burning the .iso file using MagicIso but it didn’t work.

Help?

  1. Optical media is SO 20th centruy

If you have the bandwidth and storage, this is what I’d do:

    1) Get Daemon Tools and IsoBuster. They’re both free, though Daemon Tools may try to install a toolbar or something, so make sure to turn that off.

    2) Use IsoBuster to rip an .iso from your DVD

    3) Once Daemon Tools is installed, you can virtually mount the .iso file as a DVD drive on your machine. So if you send the DVD to a machine at your other office and install Daemon Tools on that machine, you can mount the .iso image and it’ll look like you inserted the DVD to your machine.

We do this a lot at work because it’s much easier than keeping track of CDs/DVDs and worrying about them scratching.

Get with me if you have any problems.

Weed, you the man. Love it. Totally right about optical media. I feel like such a loser carrying around my CD wallet in the car backseat as a backup plan.

I’m sure I’ll need help the first time I try ripping and mounting.

For those of you reading, please keep in mind that ripping and mounting are used here purely in the context of tech support.
