Equality

Quote of the day from What Women Know:

We distrust separate-but-equal rhetoric; anyone who is regularly reminded that she is “equally important” is probably not. Partnership is illusory without equal decision-making power.

  1. Great quote, second sentence

Great quote, second sentence at least is definitely true.

I do find it interesting that elsewhere on the page, they describe these policies:

“flex-time and comparable pay for women and men, access to health care, family leave for births and care-work, and affordable, high-quality childcare…”

… as “women-friendly”. These are parent-friendly policies, not just women-friendly. Obviously they do help women, but men should have these options too, and not get derided for taking their employer up on it.

  2. This is a great section. I

This is a great section. I remember a debate about the status of women in the church with my wife in which she quoted Hinkley saying that women’s weren’t second class. My reply was simply that he never tells the men that…wonder why? Even feminist minded women in the church can be like fish in the water patriarchy: surrounded but unaware.

    1. Reminds me of a quote…

      Reminds me of another quote.
