I wrote recently about the difficulty of choosing appropriate Valentine’s Day gifts. Well, the day arrived.
I thought that a cake like this would be an ideal Valentine’s gift for the twenty-first century 🙂
But I was more traditional. I got her candy and flowers, and we went on a really nice date. We chilled out in our basement with some popcorn, sodas, snacks, and watched Charlie’s Angels II: Full Throttle together. Fun movie, but quite a bit more risque than the first one. One scene in particular, where the Angels play a part in an exotic dancing troupe in order to snag some keys, seems like it went on gratuitously long. I liked their approach in the first movie, doing almost the same thing to get the fingerprints of an executive, and then it was much briefer. This time around, the amount of time spent on close-ups of scantily-clad butts seemed a bit excessive.
Still fun to watch, though, and an enjoyable Valentine’s Day date. Right now, Christy is out shopping by herself (something she really, really enjoys); I took my son out earlier today for lunch and a Valentine’s Daddy-Son date.
Tonight, we’re going to grill some burgers and go over to a friend’s house to play cards. How did you end up spending your heart day?
V-Day
Right now I’ve been told I have to stay upstairs while Dawn prepares things for the evening downstairs. The girls were dropped off at my mom’s earlier this evening. The two of us will be spending the day alone on the slopes tomorrow.
As for Charlie’s Angels II. Dawn and I loved it. Most epecially the gratuitous butt shaking. In fact I remember asking Dawn if the risque stuff embarassed her and she said something like “No, those chicks are hot, its fun”. Or something like that.
Valentine’s Day – BLEECH!
Well.. the day wasn’t BLEECH, but BLECCH played into it.
We woke up and had waffles, which was good, and purchased our advance tickets to “50 First Dates” with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.
Then, we went Car shopping.. and after a long exhausting day, finally found a nice Honda Civic LX (in Blue with side Airbags) that we loved, so we drew up the paperwork.. but things started to head downhill after that.
It seems you need spot-on credit for the 2.9 financing, so we had to haggle haggle haggle to get financing we could live with.. all this after moving up to a higher model because the bare bones didn’t have keyless entry. We did get a fanTAStic deal, 800 under invoice and 2400 under MSRP. but yeah, haggle haggle haggle, with barely enough time to make it to Circuit City, where I was allowed to get an MP3 player for our old car which I will now drive around.
All that being said, we zipped through.. got a free installation, and a fanTAStic deal on a new CD player, and we headed off to go to the movie.. But Kelly wasn’t feeling to well, so we skipped Taco Bell and went to Chick-Fil-A.. We got sandwiches and fries.
Two minutes later, Kelly said she felt bad, and asked be to get a refund on the tickets, which I was able to do.. But, as we headed out, kelly realized we had left something important in our old car (which we left at Circuit City for installation).. we raced over there, but it was closed, and none of the remaining employees had the right keys.
As I got back into the new Civic, kelly was pale white.
Speeding, but trying to drive smoothly, I raced up 270 from Circuit city.. but, alas, Kelly grabbed the Chick Fil A bag and..
BBBLLLLEEEHCCCHHHHHH!!!!!
Now, it was thoughtful for her to grab the bag, but, alas, that bag was never meant to hold what it was now holding.. and it burst all over her new coat.. and out new car.. On the seats, in the door, on the floor, and in the little crevices under the seat.. Waffle Fries and Diet Coke, “Remixed”.
Well.. we got home, Kelly laid down on the couch, and, Like Jules and Vincent in “Pulp Fiction”, I went to the 2 hour old car with towels, a vacuum cleaner, cleaning agents, and a sock on the end of a coat hanger for two hours.
Fingers numbed, and covered, I finally declared the car “Almost good as new”, and parked it.. trepidatious of how it will look in the daylight. I made myself a frozen pizza, gave Kelly a bowl of soup, and we watched the “Friends” episode I taped for her while she was in Utah.
Now, we’re going to sleep, and valentine’s day is over.. but I learned something.. it really is what is inside that counts.
(I never post here and at my site, but this was too good a story, so I will “Throw it up” on Timpane.com as well.)
I’ve learned yet again that t
I’ve learned yet again that the most important part of parenting is being flexible.
We had to cancel our V-Day plans because the little brat had a 104 fever. Ah well. 🙂
