THE MOLDY AWARDS

Okay.. it looks like no one sees movies as much as I do..I am a loser with no life.

SO.. here’s what I want to know.. what are your “MOLDY OSCARS” for the year. As suggested by Matt, What are your top pics for movies you’ve seen this year – even if they are on DVD, or if they are really old. Just that you’ve seen them this year. Only rule: They are not nominated for oscars.

Mine:
Best picture: LOTR: The Two Towers Special Edition. WOW
BEST Director: Peter Jackson, Same.
Best Actor: Bruce Campbell, Bubba Ho-Tep
Best Actress: Famke Jennsen x2, Xmen United
Best Supporting Actress: Carrie Fisher, Empire Strikes back.. I still watch it, it still rules.

Best Supporting Actor: Marc Alaimo on Deep Space Nine (Dukat) – I know its not a movie, but I spent a year watching it, and he was great. Honorabel Mention: FREDDY VS JASON!! In every category.

  1. last year’s best movies

I have a horrible memory, so I don’t bother trying to keep track of actor’s names and that type of thing. But here is the breakdown of my favorite movies from last year.

How to lose a guy in 10 days Shanghai Knights Two Towers extended and my #1: drumroll please……………. Pirates of the Carribean–

      1. Our video collection…

Obviously, just like the Oscars, Return of the King tops my list of fave movies I’ve seen over the last year. In no particular order, though, I’d also put these in my favorites:

        • Best movie about old farts: Secondhand Lions. Just watched it last night (instead of the Oscars) and loved it.
        • Funniest Movie: Down with Love. Enjoyed the crap out of it. Very fun movie.
        • Most Thought-Provoking Movie: Moulin Rouge. Another Ewan Macgregor film. The first half, I was all like “ugh, I’m not sure I want to be watching this”, and the second half I was like “oh my lanta this is so dang good”. Sure, it was just another classic tragedy, but it was terrifically angsty and had me thinking about it for days.
        • Best fight scenes: The Tuxedo. Another Jackie Chan flick. It was a renter, not a buyer, but I really thought it was fun.
        • Most Forgettable: Timeline. The only reason I remember this movie at all is that we got six dudes together to go make fun of it in the theater. They spent a lot on special effects, though, so on that level the explosions were cool, if, erm, a bit odd for a medieval flick.
        • Best supporting comedic actor in a movie I don’t want to see again: Ellen DeGeneres in Finding Nemo. I thought she did a fantastic job, and the artists capture the essence of “Ellen” so well that I immediately knew who she was in real life on seeing her character. But my children were addicted to it for months, and I saw it three times in the theater, so I’ve seen/heard/felt the movie now like seventy times, and I’m done.
        • Best animated feature: Brother Bear. NO contest. I’ve never seen a cartoon that dealt sensitively with death and forgiveness as the primary themes. Just thinking about that movie makes my eyes sting. Gotta buy it. Wait, is it out on video yet? Only saw it in the theater; so much for “Moldy Oscars”.
        • Pirates of the Carribean: Christy likes it enough for both of us 😉

That’s all I can think of for now.

        1. Brother Bear….

Brother Bear: Tell me you’re kidding. Brother Bear was one of the worst 3 movies I saw this year.

Nemo: Olivia watches that movie AT LEAST three times a day. Sometimes more. A brilliant movie, I hope I never see it again 🙂

Timeline: Damn, that was fun to watch with you guys.

Second Hand Lions: How is it that I didn’t realize the entire cast of “Blackhawk Down” was English but all I could think about watching “Lions” was that Micheal Caine sounded like Eliza Dolittle?

Moulin Rouge: One of the best movies I’ve ever seen. It’s one of only 3 or 4 that I actually own (for myself, the kids have dozens).

Pirates of the Carribean: Great movie, lots of fun, a hot chick, sword fights.

Down with Love: I also really like this movie. I am becoming a big Ewen McGregor fan.

I also just noticed that 3 of these movies I watched with you. Cool.

          1. Michael Cain

The last movie I saw MIchael Cain in was “Miss Congeniality”. I kept expecting him to hit on Hup, or at least give the boy a lecture on how to float while walking.

          2. The Hot Chick

            She was seventeen, dude..

            SHE WAS SEVENTEEN, DUDE!!
