Hatch seeks to outlaw marriages without offspring

Utah senator Orrin Hatch says, “Marriage is not about adult desires for affirmation and benefits, it is about the well-being of children.

And he wants to pass a constitutional amendment to promote this view.

Tell that to childless parents.

Of course, this actually ties back into the gay marriage thing, but I’m voting him out. I don’t want a constitutional amendment defining marriage, thanks.

  1. He’s Officially An Idiot

You ever watch those shows that take place in some small, country town run by the aged police chief without a clue?

    Typecast: Orrin Hatch.

How dare the government tell people how two people should find love? How dare the government define the number of adults necessary to raise a child successfully?

I’m sure Hatch is introducing this bill to satisfy voters. Wonder who he’s got in the House walking the Bill?

I heard a news report this weekend also quoting Hatch and others as stating that the only way (yes, the ONLY way) to successfully raise a child is to have 1 mother + 1 father in the same household.

    So moronic.

    1. Single parents

I was raised by a single parent for several years. Some of my best friends were raised by single parents. I have friends who are childless after years of trying.

Defining their marriage in terms of the children they can’t have is demeaning and narrow-minded.

Of course, Hatch will backpedal saying that this isn’t meant to exclude childless couples or single parents (since this group comprises a very large voting base), but the point is the same from where I sit. He’s invalidating their efforts by this kind of blanket statement. Lucky me, I can vote him out 🙂

  2. Change is bad.

    With best Forrest Gump impersonation:

“But my par-ents were my Mommm-ma and my Dadd-dee. I can’t understand why other people would want anything but their own Momm-ma and Dadd-dee. I just don’t understand. They must be perverts or somethin’…”

Seriously, this follows right down the line of logical thinking of the staus quo majority in the past:

“Blacks aren’t smart enough to live on their own” “Women can’t vote. They need to be in the house” “You can’t get a mortgage without a down payment” “Black people and white people shouldn’t date.”

People need to realize that the world changes, and just because your parents did something and you do something doean’t necessarily mean its the only way.
