What Channels Would You Order?

No sooner do I discuss the absuridty of bundled pay-cable programming than the USA Today reports that legislators will outline plans for a bill to order channels a-la-carte. Any bill wouldn’t get put into play until the next session, of course, but it’s interesting to see Capitol Hill get behind the notion.

McCain is quoted for his leadership position on the bill, saying it could cut down annual cable subscriber costs as much as 50%.

Let’s see what everybody would order if a la carte was available today!

Sammy G:

-The Weather Channel
-C-SPAN (currently provided at a discount I believe, as it’s operated by a cooperative effort of the major cable networks)

-The Weather Channel -C-SPAN (currently provided at a discount I believe, as it’s operated by a cooperative effort of the major cable networks) -The major networks -ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN NEWS, and future rights to any derivative ESPN channel that would be created or broadcast anywhere in the world, even if it’s just a 24-hour weightlifing competition -FOX SPORTS (British football rules!) -TNT -Bravo -CNN, CNN Headline News, CNBC

And, I am surprised to announce…

-HGTV, because I am now a home owner and Design On A Dime is such a killer show concept.

  1. Buy your own channels

    My channels would include:

The Major Networks All ESPNS and Fox Sports The Weather Channel, but only really for the Weekly Planner/Weather on the 8s/Storm & Tropical Watch at :50 past the hour. HBO, but only during the Sopranos/Deadwood seasons HGTV, TLC, DIY – as Sam said, once yer a homeowner, these stations are indispensible Disney/Boom/Cartoon Network/the Nicks – because with marriage and homeonwership comes kids ABC Family – for 1 hour a night, for Whose Line Is It Anyway? Comedy Central Spike TV – The geek in me needs some Trek every now and then LifeTime and W – my wife needs TV too, you know… 😉 and, of course E – for the guilty pleasure that is Wild On!

  2. Great idea!

STARZ UPN – (for Enterprise) NBC CBS (for dave) FOX NEWS CNN Comedy Central Scifi Spike Cartoon Network

You know.. it makes you realize how much you really don’t need.

  3. awesome

Wow, what a great idea! Then I wouldn’t have to pay for the three dozen sports channels I currently get! (Why do I need an entire network devoted to the Yankees?) Yes, I know I’m a lesser man because I don’t like sports – bite me.

HGTV (for the wife, of course) Bravo Discovery TLC BBC America AMC/TCM Nickelodeon/Cartoon Channel (for the brat) Comedy Spike (for Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, the funniest show on TV) VH1 (for I Love the 80s when I need to turn my brain off)
