For those who hadn’t caught the news, it turns out that beer is good for you. In a recent long-term study, scientists found that consumption of one bottle of beer per day “reduces your chances of contracting cataracts or atherosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries caused by the buildup of plaque) by 50 per cent.”
Yep, you heard that right: you’re half as likely to get hardened arteries and cataracts if you drink a bottle a day.
Don’t get your hopes up too high, though. The study also found that drinking a second bottle dramatically reduced the benefit, and drinking three or more a day adversely affected these same risk factors.
I guess I’ll take my chances with hard arteries and cataracts by making other improvements in my diet, though. I hate the smell and taste of beer.
Yayy!!
I like beer.. it will help my arteries..
As I drink it with my nachos from ElTejano (the cool little place near my house), and chase it with cheesecake.
Yum.
Acquired Taste
I can just see somebody out there reading the study, popping a bottle open, washing down a bucket of polysaturated cheesefat curdballs.
I’ve never liked the taste of beer. Or wine. The acquired taste thing, to me, has always been a sophisticate pressure line to get me into the social grace of drinking. Blah.

Acquired taste
Actually, the been and wine thins does have an acquired taste element to it, especially when you realize that there are a number of different tasting beers and wines. A white zinfandel is incompareable to a port wine, or a chianti. A light lager is totally different than a hard cider or a stout.
Certain beers and wines go really well with certain foods. Somehow, no beverage seems to complement spicy mexican food than corona (except Mountain Dew), and a nice Shiraz with chocolate right before bed is nice.

My Point Exactly

Chocolate and Wine
Actually each contain similar enzymes that act as antioxidants and also chemicals that relax vascular muscles, lowering blood pressure.
The trick with these two is MODERATION!
A 3/4 full glass of wine a night and piece of dark chocolate are good for you.
A carafe of wine and a king size milky way bar a night are bad for you.
