Explain the Pie Thing

Can someone explain to me the “pie” inside joke? I don’t understand.

  1. mmmm pie….

Its something Christy likes to do to indicate, as if clearing her throat digitally, that the topic has run aground.

    1. Hey!

Credit where credit is due… I started it here at barnson.org. 🙂 I believe the first mention was in this thread, discussing sports in which I have little knowledge and less interest.

It roughly means “I have nothing further of worth to contribute to the discussion, but wanted to post anyway.” It’s often a good closer for an argument, or a gracious way to bow out of a discussion. I first explained it on this page, saying:

…Just FYI, “I Like Pie” is a code-phrase here on barnson.org for “I am uncomfortable with this conversation” or “I really want to comment, but also… not so much.”

It comes from a Weebl and Bob cartoon. In fact, here’s the very first one. I must tell you, though, you’re really going to wish you had that 3 minutes of your life back if you go to watch it. And if you go watch every one in the history, you really need a life.

It’s worthless, much like a person who says “Me like pie” or “I like pie” in the conversation means “My opinion is worthless or irrelevant to the discussion”, or sometimes “I wish this conversation were pie, because there’s so much of it”, or even…

Bah, too many different ways for it to be defined. Like trying to pin down the word “truth”. It just can’t be done to everybody’s satisfaction without having such a broad meaning as to be useless in practice.

      1. I like Pie..

I tend to use it when I am reading the post and want to comment but it will take too much energy.. or if I don’t have a comment but I’ve enjoyed reading the post and I want people to know I’m there.. or to say “I really want to post.. but fear the melee if i do, so I’m not.. but there is a post in my head”.

Oh, I also use it when i really want pie.. which is always.
