For those of us in the greater DC-area, here’s to hoping that you have the good fortune of easy shoveling. And for those of you formerly from the DC area, now residing in more snow-friendly environments, not much has changed about how the nation’s capital experiences a snow event. Yep, it was a collective freak-out.
Officially, here at the homestead in greater Silver Spring, we were more in the 15″ range, with several very large boughs on the pine tree down in the backyard.
But no power outages. And a successful first outing with both kids in the sled for the first time. So, a good time being had by all here. Anyone else care to report?
And since you might be intersted, here’s what Wikipedia reports about thundersnow: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thundersnow.
Now, my lovely teacher-wife gets to start the day-long vigil: will school get cancelled or delayed tomorrow? Stay tuned.
Nice.
Nice. For fifteen inches out here in Utah, they wouldn’t even delay the start of school. “Walk through it, kids!”
Utah, though, is like the land of the predictably strange weather. Bright sunshine during a torrential downpour. The aforementioned Thundersnow article refers specifically to the Great Salt Lake as creating these, and… well, yep!
Back in MD, I was pretty good at predicting what the weather was going to be for the next 4-8 hours without looking at anything more than a barometer. Here, though, I’m good at predicting it too, for 300 days a year. “Sunny with a few clouds.” The remaining 65 or 66 days tend to throw me, though.

Didn’t do too bad…
We got about 8 – 9 inches here. Spent the morning digging out the driveway and front walk. The girls had a great time playing and sledding in the snow.
We were lucky and did not have any issues with power outtages or the like. The snow plow company we hired for the community has done a great job and the roads were cleared in rather quick order. So all in all we had a great Sunday enjoying the beautiful winter weather that has been missed so much this year.:)
Tim, we should try to get together sometime, it’s been a while since we have seen each other…
Got almost double that
Staying up at my girlfriends place in Carroll County, we got over 16 inches. The roads were cleared pretty quickly so it wasnt that bad at all. The Xterra made it thru the snow with no problems. — Bryan
I bet

We only got about 6-8 inches here the other day. I hear that’s pretty average for winter 😉

Christy tells me that I need to amend my previous comment. It’s more like sixteen inches here!
And all in one day.
