I finally uploaded The Floogie. Mucho thanks to Justin and Teresa for resurrecting this old dog, and sending me an mp3 of this first Wayward Sun tune.
You can also stream the song using this link. Requires WinAmp or (for UNIX-like platforms), XMMS, and a high-bandwidth connection, because the song’s encoded at 160kbits/sec (a little fast for some streaming connections).
I apologize for the bad chunks of the song… it was on a well-worn tape.
Oh, Justin also threw me an original demo of us singing the Wayward Sun Theme Song; you can stream Wayward Sun’s theme song.

Should a link to this not also go up on the MUSIC page?
Not sure…
You must realize there’s a significant portion of me that, upon hearing the Floogie again for the first time in a decade, thinks twice about having published it here…

Revisionist history..
Is BAD! Even the Beatles produced an Anthology that included works of Questionable quality.
And besides.. Floogie is the dance for me.
it’s the dance for the young generation!
As one of the people who requested it, thanks! This song is a hoot–and that’s not a bad thing! I just got my old WS tape from my parents’ house when we visited them over the weekend and have enjoyed listening to the other songs on that that didn’t make it on TAFTFT…Little Bit of Paradise (whatever it was called) and another one whose name I have no clue about at all–the one with the line “I’m so glad that I’m so mad.”
By the way, I forwarded the link to the TAFTFT page to Jen, so maybe she’ll answer your question one day!

Your welcome..
On behalf of Teresa (who had the tape itself) and me.
Since I have made the “digitizing” of these songs a small hobby.. and since I thought I knew everything there was to know about this band (they always wondered why they had to have a thin, tall, male groupie.. they felt lied to by all those POISON videos.).. I am startled to hear of the existence of two songs I know nothing about. You have a different tape than I.
I would LOVE to somehow get a copy of these unreleased songs so I can clean them up and put them up.
Counting Shadows
Yeah, if anybody has a copy of Ben’s solo piece, “Counting Shadows”, I’d love it. If I recall, some of the lyrics went something like this:
I first listened to the piece on a tape Ben gave me while I was away at college. For some reason, I always felt like that last stanza was talking to me 🙂 I’d just left home, and breaking from the band was a really painful thing. I was convinced I needed to go to an LDS college, though, and so I left even though it meant abandoning all my friends. Sometimes, there are decisions tinged with regret at the same time as you’re fond of them.

Shadows On The Wall
Official name of the tune. If memory serves me correct, the live debut occured in Rochester, NY? We incorporated it into the set list as a muscle chart to overpower the speakers 🙂 Also, I believe we went back and forth on whether to put it on NFQ.

Watching shadows on the wall
Doesn’t bother me at all.
certainly, if you want it
The tape I have is of pretty poor quality–it’s a copy of a tape I got from my friend Jenny (who was dating Matt at the time), and I imagine someone else probably has a better one, but I’d be happy to send you what I have if you’d like. I’ve never copied any other cassette onto my computer, but I can figure it out (though it may take a while)…or I can make a copy the old-fashioned way and mail it. Just let me know where to send it, in either case.
Also, it’s possible I’m just describing the songs poorly…the first contains the following spoken clip, “Dudes, Sam has completely, totally, utterly lost it over this girl! Just look at him–he’s DEAD!!” and the second begins, I think “Who is to blame for this spur of the moment action/ I’m a fighter, and I don’t believe in words…” (apologies to WS if I’ve butchered that somehow.) There was also an a cappella one called “My Father’s Tears”. Other than those, everything else on my tape is on TAFTFT.
By the way, I hope you all don’t mind my dropping by here now and again–I only came for the music page, but have enjoyed some of your other conversations, too. 🙂
Karin
Conversations…
I’m happy you’re joining in! Always glad to have more people dropping by and posting to threads. We’re mostly old friends here now, within “two degrees of separation”. For instance, I don’t know Weed personally, but Sam and Ben do. Sam doesn’t know you, but I do. It’s all fun!
Allow me to suggest “registering” on the site — you can create an account on the right-hand side. Doing so will allow you to post front-page news items if you like, and upload an “avatar” — an 85 pixel by 85 pixel photo of yourself. I am having trouble remembering what you look like, so that would be fantastic 🙂

Pictures
I especially find it cool to have the pictures. You can see the person responding.. I haven’t seen matt in 7 years, but I feel like we see each other every day, and I think its because of the pictures….
I think what it does is create some sort of image in my head that we are all kind of hanging out.
But I’m crazy.. its important you know that.
brain freeze
“Dudes, Sam has completely, totally, utterly lost it over this girl! Just look at him–he’s DEAD!!”
You know, that sounds really familiar, but I honestly can’t remember what song that went to.

Just a little bit of paradise
Oh right – I should’ve just read your earlier post.
Just a little bit of paradise Is all I ask from you Don’t know what to say to make it right But I sure know what to do Michelle, you don’t understand What I’m going through How I feel for you!
And then of course, we had to re-record it so that Sam could use it for his high-school psychology project:
Just a little bit of paradise Is all I ask from life Take my Prozac to make it right Please get rid of my mental strife OCD, is it stupidity Passed hereditarily? And why has it stuck on me?
*shakes head* there’s probably really important stuff that I don’t know because my brain is full of stuff like this.
— Ben Schuman Mad, Mad Tenor
who is to blame?
I remember this one too:
“Who is to blame for this spur of the moment action/ I’m a fighter, and I don’t believe in words…”
The chorus went like this:
Don’t you see How happy we could be The words of a lifetime are to be said But you’re lying on a bed Oh I know that I could cry But it wouldn’t help at all Personal subjects analyzed And my hopes are starting to fall I’m singing oh oh oh
Can’t remember what it was called tho.
— Ben Schuman Mad, Mad Tenor
Yes, that’s it!
Thank you, Ben, for identifying the mystery songs! 🙂 Now, does someone have a better copy than mine? I’ll send mine along if no one else volunteers (and someone will tell me where to send it).
As for registering…I probably will, now that I find I keep visiting, and I’ll add a picture as soon as I find one. I have a 4- year old daughter and 20-month old son and always seem to be on the wrong end of the camera…
Karin
P.S. – Oh–one more random question. Was one of those Battles of the Bands at Richard Montgomery HS? I remember going to something like that there once, and I think it must’ve been to see you guys play. I remember one group, called “The Chocolate,” or something, singing “Chocolate’s Got a Brand-New Band” and thinking it might be a very long evening…
If no one volunteers –
It depends on where you are, I guess.
If you are still in Montgomery County, I am there too.. and I am the sort of unofficial digitizer of old WS tapes.
Ben – where is BEN? Sam is in Nashville? I am in Germantown Jon is in Frederick Weed is near Frederick (I think) Matt is in Utah, as is Christy Paul is in Utah Teresa is in Gaitherburg Umm.. where is everyone anyway?
So, yeah.. if you get it to me, I will post anything that isn;t too warped.
whereabouts
Ben is in New York City! (woohoo) Sam is in Minneapolis Weed is in beautiful scenic Perryville, Maryland
Karin, have I met you before? I probably did, like 14 years ago, right?
— Ben Schuman Mad, Mad Tenor
my whereabouts
Warped? A Wayward Sun song?? 🙂 Anyway, that might work…I was in Gaithersburg originally (Watkins Mill, though; not QO), but now live in (vrgnia)…um, was I mumbling? I meant Virginia, specifically Springfield. (My mother is still horrified! 🙂 ) Anyway, I am back in Montgomery Village frequently–and, in fact, will be again this afternoon–so maybe I’ll look you up in the phonebook while I’m there and drop a tape in the mail if I find you there. If not, I can get it to you some other way, since I’m in the area.
Karin
Hmmm…
A Mystery ensues…
JT
whew–so it was the right house!
Sorry–it wasn’t really meant to be a mystery; I only named the tape that because I didn’t know what it was supposed to have been called. I hope you don’t mind my dropping it off directly: I was at my parents’ house in Montgomery Village this afternoon, and when I looked up where you (presumably) lived, it seemed a lot more sensible just to bring the tape by than drag my kids out to buy a padded envelope and then to the post office to get it weighed, etc., etc. If you’ve listened to it you’ve seen that the quality is lousy, as advertised…I hope you can manage to extract something from it, though!
🙂 Karin
The tape..
Well, let me keep my findings secret for the most part for now, until I post them (I like to hit Matt with little surprises.)
Suffice to say, much of it was either wapred, or is already up on this site in some form.. as for my findings.. (and they do exist) expect them some time next week..
JT
OK
Here I am…finally registered. Maybe whatever you find will inspire someone else to dig up a tape in better condition!
I am in frederick often….
I am in frederick often, but i actually live in Harpers Ferry, WV.
It is so strange how many old memories have been coming back to me lately. I volunteer back at QO working as a set designer in the theatre, that combined with reading all the old stories of WS and such. Ahh the good ole days.
Well back to the grind stone… arghh…
~jOn~
EDIT by matthew: corrected link.
I am so glad about playing my
I am so glad about playing my part in making us all feel old. I just think that it’s great that there is still an interest and I happen to love the old songs. Oh and Matt just sounds so cute when he sings the Floogie.
Ack!
My favorite part is the “ack!” I’d shout at certain parts of the song. That’s talent.

Important to note..
The wayward sun theme song is actually sun by Ben here I think, instead of Sam, who sang on TAFTFT.
Wow.. I’m almost thirty.
Holy Mother of Crap
WTF were we thinking? What was I smoking?
Holy crap. I have to go hide now.
(By the way, I think I have a live version of Shadows on the Wall on mp3 somewhere – I’ll see if I can find it.)
