Rest In Peace

All,

Please pay your respects for my father, who passed away this morning from a two-year battle with cancer. He was a good man who took care of his kids, served his country in WWII, and lived by God’s comandments. His death was as good as a death can go: quick, painless, and surrounded by his wife and family. I mean this in all honest when I say I hope your death will be as peaceful and loving as his was. If there is a heaven, he’s there now smiling at me.

I’m so sorry, Steve. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

  2. Curses, foiled again!

Alas, my scheme to keep everybody I know and care about, and everybody they know and care about, has failed again. I must get back to work on my immortality ray.

Seriously, though, it sucks when that happens, and you have my sympathy. The way I figure it, though, you are the one who needs the respect and sympathy. I’m pretty certain that, wherever he is or isn’t, death isn’t a big deal to him anymore.

Maybe I should send you some Schwan’s ice cream. That always seems to cheer me up a bit.

  3. What to say..

Dude, I can’t even imagine – and I see it a lot. I deal a lot with death, and with grieving families, and I still can’t find the words. I’m sure that I speak for everyone when I say these two things..

    1) We are honored that you choose this blog to share that kind of loss, and that you know we will not only be respectful, but also care.. you make us feel more like a community.

    2) Feeling like a community sucks right now because although most of us never knew the man, we feel it with you.. because we are not just the people who blog on a site, we’ve become friends – and as such, you and yours havenot only our sympathy, but our support.

    1. No Words

No words seem right for times like these, only the conveyance of love to you and yours. Though it’s a relief from his painful cancer, nothing can fill the void. I’m sorry that he suffered so long, I’m glad he was able to die peacefully with his family around him. I think there’s no better way to go.

You’ll be in my prayers as well.–

See, I read this completely differently than intended, I think. I read it something like this:

When I die, I want to go like my grandfather: peacefully, in my sleep, not screaming like the passengers in his airplane.

  4. Condolences

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. All in all, it sounds like a good long life. We should all be so lucky when it’s our time.
