After much research, I think I’ve narrowed down what my next car will be.

And the winner is…

A 2005 Hyundai Accent!!!!

My criteria were: 1) 4 doors 2) Automatic 3) A/C 4) A good warranty 5) Fuel Economy 6) Low price

These are ranked in order from least to most important (bass ackwards, I know 😉

With the mighty 13mpg my F150 gets, the money this Hyundai will save me in gas will pay for the car payment AND allow me to keep my truck. I was weighing the Accent vs a Honda Civic, and the thing that won me over was the price and the warranty. My wife & I plan to drive this into the ground, so resale wasn’t a big thing, and once you throw that out, the Hyundai wins hands down.

Whaddya’all thing?

My $.02 (which would buy .00000001 gallons of gas now 😉 Weed

  1. Two cents…

Actually, your two cents would purchase 0.0063 gallons of gas right now, assuming the gas is $3.17 a gallon.

But seriously, I think your move to a cheaper, smaller car is part of a large trend in the U.S. right now. With the upsurge in gas prices, people are finally realizing how expensive their vehicles are when there’s a cost you can’t amortize out over five or six years. I think there will be a HUGE upswing in people moving to compact cars soon, and fuel economy will be the primary motivator.

    1. Does Hyundai & Honda Have Stock?

I agree. I know there’s probably a lot of laborers who drive trucks 30 miles one-way to work who are going to be hard-pressed to make do with current gas prices. At these prices, hybrid technology and fuel cells have to be close to becoming feasible. If I could invent a cheap way to remove hydrogen from water, I could by that island in the Carribean I’ve been wanting 😉

Not that I listen to him, but I caught a snippet of Rush Limbaugh today talking about how we need to start harvesting the shale oil in Colorado and other places out west. I think that’s true as well, but we need to start seriously investing in hydrogen power. It’s more plentiful and cleaner. If only Bush and Cheney weren’t in the pocker of the oil companies.

  2. From what I understand,

From what I understand, Hyundai’s reviews, while abysmally low five years ago, have skyrocketed in recent years. Both Hyundai and KIA have started marketing cheap cars with tremendous warranty and suddenly a huge upswing in reliability.

Let me know how the Accent works out. I’m probably going to be car shopping by the end of next year, and Hyundai is high on my list.

    1. The main issues…

The main issues with Hyundai and Kia remain “fit and finish” issues. The drivetrain has the best warranty in the industry, and lives up to it. But the windshield wipers, little knobs and switches, handles, and that kind of thing have real issues still today.

My two cents 🙂 In the sub-compact market, I’d still take a Honda or a Toyota any day over a Kia or a Hyundai, but those are still solid cars except for those finish problems.

      1. I would imagine that most of

I would imagine that most of those fit and finish repairs would be fairly cheap, though. Unless this is including the electric motors that run power windows…

I am currently hitting the 155k mile mark with my 98 Camry. On one hand, I’m still hopeful that I can get another 50000 miles out of her. She is, after all, a Camry.

However, my last Camry went through 2000 bucks of repairs around 155k, only to then have the alternator give out… so I’m also more than a little paranoid… —————————– “I can kill you with my brain…” Arthur Rowan

    2. I said Lady… step inside my Hyundai…

My clutch died a few months ago and I had to borrow my grandfather’s Hyundai while my Toyota was in the shop. Actually I thought it was a really nice car – a good ride, very comfortable. Not a lot of pick-up, but a much nicer car than I expected. I think you made a good choice.

Personally, I’m saving up for a Prius. They just look cool.
