I don’t know if you guys have heard about this yet or not, but Peter Gabriel put all the original tracks to his 1982 hit,”Shock the Monkey” on the Internet for people to remix and submit for a contest.

He got over 700 entries.

In addition, he promoted his new record label, and drew a lot of interest to his older titles.

THIS is the way the recording industry should be doing business. Don’t lock up the hits of yesteryear in dusty cabinets, hoping to release just one more “greatest hits” album to make a few more bucks. Open them up, and use them to promote your current library. Make them available for use, fair use, and free trading, and find a way to turn that into a positive promotion for your label.
